What makes the WMS slots stand out?
When you walk into any brick-and-mortar casino, you will see a lot of the WMS slots in prime positions. Examples include the wrap-around effect of some Willy Wonka slots or the big screens that slope for the newest 007-inspired titles.
WMS is a pioneer of unusual reel configurations. These include the double-reel setup of Spartacus, Gladiator, Rome and Lil Red slots under the “colossal reels” banner. Others, like the Elvis-themed slots, have different sizes of reels on each side of the screen.
Filler symbols on many of the WMS slots are shiny gem-like playing card suits. Along with the higher-paying symbols, these often come in long strips (known as stacks) on the reels. Your bigger wins on the WMS slots (other than progressive jackpots) happen when you cover the entire screen with the same symbols.
To say that WMS has driven innovation in slot game design over the years would be an understatement. This company is at the forefront of slot design, by coming up with multiple new concepts that other slot makers then follow.
Popular live slots from WMS
Willy Wonka
Based on the 1971 movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder, this theme of casino slots made an impact in more ways than one.
There are plenty of ideas from this film: The chocolate factory for bonus rounds, Oompa Loompas for base game features and everlasting gobstoppers to trigger the big money subgames.
There are four Willy Wonka slots. The latest two (Pure Imagination and World of Wonka) introduced wider screens. These wrap around you as you sit at the slot, giving an immersive feel. Add an upper screen and dreamy, surreal graphics and the songs from the movie and you will see why Wonka-themed slots are a must-play.
These WMS slots are not yet available online.
007 slots
Each of the James Bond-inspired slots is based on classic films. Again, WMS has not only used the theme; it has innovated the media experience.
Two of the 007-themed slots have giant screens that slope away, with an upper screen for different bonus features.
One includes a Casino Royale theme, which features a chip collection (with elements of hold and spin), plus casino-themed bonus games. The Live and Let Die-themed slot includes voodoo imagery and stars Roger Moore. Sharks and underwater bombs make the free spins more interesting.
Goldfinger takes a different angle. It is a mechanical James Bond slot with a bonus wheel and electronics overlaid on physical symbols.
Monopoly slots from WMS
Several slot makers have games based on the iconic Monopoly board games, including IGT. None are as spectacular or complex as the WMS Industries’ range. These games star Rich Uncle Moneybags (also called Mr. Monopoly), his dog and the familiar playing pieces.
Some have board game bonus rounds and others have collection elements involving houses and hotels. Look out for Monopoly slots with huge progressive jackpots and several games you can enjoy online.
Other themed live slots from WMS
The Willy Wonka– and 007-themed slots are great examples of how WMS produces iconic casino slots. These offerings are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to its slots.
Here are some of the other slot games you can enjoy during your next casino visit:
- Lock it Link: This theme has an innovative twist on hold and spin bonus. You link symbols together and get bigger prizes or jackpots as they “lock.” Titles include Lock it Link Nightlife and Piggy Bankin’ (where you aim to get the biggest possible piggy bank).
- Heidi’s Bier Haus: This old theme is available at online and live casinos. The live game recently got at an upgrade that includes a wheel bonus, “prost” mode (for extra wild reels) and progressive jackpots. Look out for a brand-new Heidi & Hannah version.
- Zeus: These come from the classic catalog of WMS and still holds up today. There are five versions of Zeus, and the newest, Zeus III, includes a cone-shaped reel setup. All have multiple wild symbols and free spins.
- Kronos Unleashed: Another new game is proved hugely popular. Big screens and a hold-and-spin style bonus game with “power-up” symbols make these games an immersive experience. In addition to Kronos, there is now a Zeus version and one based on the mythical Medusa.
There are even more TV tie-ins to add to this slot list:
- Simpsons
- Mad Men
- Seinfeld
- National Lampoon
- Star Trek
- The Flintstones

Players looking to spend a little time with the Fire Queen slot machine better be ready for things to get a little heated. These hot Double Money Burstslots from WMS provide big potential payouts over 100 possible paylines. Featuring an interesting, fantasy theme and an unusual reel layout, the Fire Queen slot machine visually stands out from the crowd. Players looking for something really special might just walk away feeling a little cold though.
Williams Interactive provides a fairly nice design for this slot machine. The Fire Queen online slot uses a fairly typical fantasy theme, although it leans more towards Xena and Game of Thrones than Lord of the Rings. Players are first greeted with a nice background that shows a moonlit courtyard with a lot of candles and alchemy equipment. It’s pretty, but the busy background and the similarly colored blue reels can make it hard to see the actual symbols sometimes. A better contrast would have been nice.
The symbols are similarly fantasy themed. The game uses candles, potions, rings, amulets, a flower, a horse with a flaming mane, a griffin, a phoenix and the Fire Queen herself as symbols. The designs look nice and colorful with a good level of detail, although unfortunately the game does include generic card symbols for “A, K, Q, J and 10” which is a little disappointing. The royal fantasy design has a lot of room for neat ideas, so it’s a shame to see them go easy on the low-value symbols.
The sound design is a little better overall. The general background soundtrack matches the theme, with lots of low pipes, drums and distant calls. It really sets the mood for a fantasy environment. Players lucky enough to get into the bonus round will also get to hear some soft vocals added to the track. During the game, winning paylines are noted with xylophone and chime sounds which helps keep things whimsical. The fire sound effects aren’t bad either. This is nice since a beautifully animated fire effect triggers every time a wild space transfers.
The Gameplay
Fire Queen’s gameplay is fairly simple, except for the somewhat unique reel layout. This is one of WMS’ Double Money Burst slots, which refers to the special layout that splits the game. There are technically 11 reels total. There are two 2×2 boxes on the left side of the screen which technically make up reels 1 through 8 since each space is considered a separate reel. Reels 9, 10 and 11 are the 6-space high reels on the right side of the screen. These reels are connected and paylines run across them. There are 100 paylines total and players have to play all 100 for each spin. The line bet amount counts for 2 lines, making the minimum bet 0.50 credits.
The online slot game does include wild symbols, which are the titular Fire Queen. During the base game, these have an interesting, extra feature in play. If a wild symbol appears in one of the 2×2 boxes on the left, it will transfer over to the matching space in the other box. This is a nice doubling feature that makes it much easier to start up a winning payline by loading the first or second spaces with wilds. Reels 9, 10 and 11 don’t have this transfer feature, instead they feature stacked wilds that can often fill up the entire reel.
The normal gameplay has an interesting feel to it, with room for some very wild swings. The payouts per line are very low. For example, 3 wilds in a set only pay back half of the total bet. The trick is that if a payline manages to make it to the 9th reel, then it breaks out and generally triggers several paylines at once. When the wins hit they tend to branch out across the game and rack up lots of little wins that can swing the game back into the player’s favor. The problem is being able to handle the big losses while waiting for things to turn around, especially since the game’s only real jackpot is tied into the bonus feature.
The Free Spin Bonus Feature
There are two different ways to trigger the bonus feature in Fire Queen slots. During any normal spin, if players manage to get 4 of the same symbol to fill either of the 2×2 boxes, then this will trigger the bonus game. Players will get 5 free spins and 1x their total bet in an immediate payout. Note that the game does count wilds as part of this. For example, matching 3 identical symbols and a wild can still trigger the game. The other way to trigger it is to get one of the special feature symbols, which looks like a phoenix in a crystal ball, in each of the big reels.
Getting a feature symbol in reels 9, 10 and 11 also awards 5 free spins and 1x the total bet. The big jackpot comes for very lucky players who manage to get both bonus triggers in the same spin. Getting 4 matching symbols in a box and 3 feature symbols awards 20 free spins and 100x the total bet.
The free spins themselves have a few new features. If players triggered the free spin round by getting a matching set of symbols in a 2×2 box, then that box locks its symbols in place for all of the free spins. This is generally good since it makes it easier to win, even if it locks low-value symbols in place. The second feature is that any wild symbol that lands on reels 9, 10 and 11 expands to fill the entire reel. In addition, this makes it a little easier to set up a lot of winning paylines, especially for players who can get reel 9 to turn wild.
Play Williams Slot Machines Online Real Money
The standard features are still in play, so wilds will transfer across the 2×2 boxes. It is also possible to partially retrigger the bonus. Getting 3 feature symbols across reels 9, 10 and 11 will award the player with another 5 free spins and 1x their total bet. The 2×2 boxes can’t trigger the bonus during a free spin.
Remember, diamonds can arrive along with other icons and combine on a payline in order to boost your payouts. /diamond-mine-slot-machine.html. Cascading DiamondsWhenever diamonds arrive on a reel, they slide across the reel in a particular direction as per their point.
Cooling Off
Fire Queen is a generally nice slot machine that should be a good fit for a lot of players. The design isn’t perfect, and it’d be nice if there were a few more features or a more exciting bonus round to really make it stand out, but it’s a fine machine overall. It’s a lot of fun to watch the winning paylines light up the screen and it keeps play fairly fast despite featuring 100 paylines. The 95.95% RTP also keeps it in line with similar machines. The free Fire Queen slot is a good option for anyone ready to ride out some losses while waiting for that hot streak.
